LIFE PlasPLUS: presentation at second VALBREE conference on “Opportunities and challenges in plastics recycling” in Mons, Belgium, on 28 September 2022

Université de Liège (ULiège), on behalf of all the project partners, was very pleased to present LIFE PlasPLUS at the second VALBREE conference on “Opportunities and challenges in plastics recycling” in Mons, Belgium, on 28 September 2022. The conference was organized by the Materia Nova Materials R&D Center based in Wallonia, Belgium and the consortium of the Interreg VALBREE project. The event gathered numerous players of the plastics value chain including industrial companies, research centers, regional thematic and competitiveness clusters as well as universities. It was very informative to get a thorough update on the numerous initiatives to improve the circularity of plastics and to learn about their improved societal adoption.

Philippe Giaro of the GeMMe research Group at ULiège provided an update on the LIFE PlasPLUS project with the latest results on two simultaneous value chains targeted by the project : 1) Plastics Recycling / Automotive Value Chain: Following the production by Comet Traitements SA (Comet) of high purity thermoplastics (ABS, PS & FPP) from a ternary mix and the compounding by Seri Plast SRL, Stellantis (Centro Ricerche Fiat) proceeded with industrial validation by the injection of a Fiat 500 part with 100% recycled FPP Comet compounds and 2)  Flame Retardant Plastics Recycling / Antimony Value Chain: Following the separation of Flame Retardant Plastics by Comet and ULiège with XRF and PICKIT technologies, antimony-rich char was produced by pyrolysis on the Comet industrial site.

The conference’s agenda is available here.
